When I climbed Mt. Whitney for the first time a couple years ago, I celebrated reaching the summit with an ice cold beer (it was beyond cold up there). Not a good idea, given how grueling the hike was and how many calories I’d burned on the epic day hike. On the way down I remember being a bit wobbly, from the combo of the exhaustion, hunger, dehydration, high altitude, and I’m sure the beer didn’t help. Not good when you’re hiking snowy, sketchy cliffside trails at 14,000 feet.
Enter: Athletic Brewing.
Athletic Brewing lets you do just that, go “All Out” without compromise. No booze. Great ingredients. Dedicated to outdoor adventure (just follow their Insta).
I love the branding, and advocacy by outdoor adventurers, but more importantly I love their beers. I haven’t had a bad one yet, which I rarely say about a NA brand when one or two of their styles will come off as forced or flavorless … given the low calories and alcohol removal process.
But Athletic has figured it out.
A bronze medal winner at the 2020 World Beer Awards, this winter stout was “inspired by days on the slopes and nights by the fire.”
This 90-calorie stout has a mountain of flavor, pouring dark as night with a thick creamy head. It kicks off hints off coffee (but nothing like it’s limited edition stout collab with Rise Coffee, which is worth stocking up on if it hits the stores again!), toffee, chocolate, molasses, and wraps with a toasted marshmallow finish.
Pour one now, and pour one for later because this brew only gets better as it airs and warms up next to the fire.
Here’s to going all out! Cheers! ❄️ 🔥 🍻 🏕
